How to make evaporated milk at home
What introduction or description is required for this post? All I can say is its very simple to make this evaporated milk at home and it can be used in various recipes like milk cakes, icecreams and many other desserts. So all this while, if any of you have been postponing making a recipe because of evaporated milk, please go ahead 🙂 It hardly takes few minutes
to make it and just an ingredient – milk. You will get around 600-700 ml evaporated milk from a litre of milk.
So, lets get started 🙂 I shall surely share the recipes made with this evaporated milk. I have used it in icecreams, breads and cakes. It’s a breeze to make icecream if you have a bottle of evaporated milk with you.
Ingredients:
- Full cream milk 1 litre
Method:
- Take the milk in a wide mouth pan (preferably nonstick) and bring to a mild boil.
- Do not let it boil. Simmer it on low flame till it reduces to almost one third of its volume.
- Keep scrapping the sides and bottom of the pan from time to time.
- After it reaches the desired consistency, strain it using a mesh seive so that the milk solids are seperated.
- Store in airtight bottles. You can use these in cakes, icecreams and other desserts.
Notes:
- It’s better to use full cream milk though you may use 3% fat milk too.
- Refrigerate it in clean glass bottles.
- Do not let the milk to boil.
- It stays fresh in the refrigerator for 5-6 days.
