Drumstick Soup
Drumstick is one among those plant species whose seeds, flowers, leaves are edible and extremely nutritious. “Moringa” commonly referred to as drumstick is treated as a ‘super plant’ for its unique yet powerful properties that helps to fight against various ailments in our system. This nutrient-dense plant has its roots in Ayurveda and was used as a medicine by our ancestors. The stems of moringa
plant are mostly used in Indian kitchens to prepare scrumptious delicacies. Its extensively used in South Indian cuisine. drumstick is an integral part Kerala dishes like avial, sambar etc. Moringa powder is used a super food in many baked recipes like breads and cookies.

Below recipe is an extremely simple yet flavourful and healthy soup. The only tedious part is to scoop out the pulp of the drumstick 🙂 Please do try it and share your feedback. I have used a 240 ml cup.
Ingredients:
- Drumstick 2
- Shallots 2-3
- Onion 1
- Garlic cloves 2-3
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper/ red chili flakes
- Butter/ghee 1 tsp
Method:
- Peel the drumstick and cut them into 3-4 inch long pieces.
- Slice the onion and garlic finely.
- Transfer the drumstick, onion and garlic into a pressure pan. Add around two cups of water. Add salt to taste.
- Bring it to a boil and cook for 2-3 whistles.
- Switch off the flame and strain the liquid.
- Scoop out the pulp from the drumstick and pulse it in a mixer along with the onion and garlic.
- Add the puree to the strained liquid.
- Bring it to a boil. Adjust salt according to your taste.
- Chop the shallots finely.
- Add a spoon of ghee in a small pan.
- Fry the shallots along with a pinch of salt and red chili flakes.
- Pour this tempering into the broth and serve it hot.
