Jowar Cocoa Walnut Cookies
I had never made use of only Jowar or Sorghum flour in cookies or cakes. Though I remember using a small amount of jowar flour in some of my crackers. But I must tell you that these cookies taste absolutely yum and they are really crispy. I am really pleasantly surprised to say the least. Since morning, I was feeling a bit bored (Neha is in her classes and hubby is down with cold and you all know how men deal with cold 🙂 ). So, thought
of experimenting with some bakes using jowar flour. Made some jowar crackers too just like our good old Graham crackers. And wow!! that tastes absolutely delicious as well. Since it was my first trial with only jowar flour, have made a very small batch.
I don’t really need to tell you the health benefits of jowar. It’s rated as one among the top five healthy grains in the world. It’s gluten free and has a good amount of dietary fibre. Jowar has anti cancer properties and fights free radicals which cause premature ageing. It also boosts immunity and improves heart health. Moreover, it’s a rich source of protein and helps to control blood sugar level. Aren’t these reasons sufficient for us to use this in our diet? Stay tuned to more recipes using jowar flour.

- Toast the walnuts on a skillet or oven till its crispy.
- Chop the walnuts finely.

Notes:
- Walnuts can be replaced with almonds or cashew nuts.
- You can add some choco chips if you wish to.
- Check the cookies after around 18-20 minutes. They will be a bit soft initially but will turn crispier on cooling.
- I got around 11 cookies of three inch diameter.
- I have used organic jowar flour. Please use a fresh batch of flour as the flour tends to get slightly bitter when old.
- You can skip the baking powder if you wish.
