Instant Wheat Dosa
For the past few days, the temperature in Chennai has been on an upward curve. In such weather, it’s quite difficult to stand in the kitchen and knead bread dough. This results in resorting to idli/dosa, upma etc for breakfast. But on days when you don’t have idli/dosa batter at home, nor your family wants to eat upma, what do you do? And it being the next day of Vishu, I had a good bowl of nice sambar with me. So, made this instant dosa
with some wheat flour, fine semolina and rice flour.
It hardly takes two minutes to make the batter. Give it a nice half an inch rest and you are good to go. If in a mood for extra flavours, add some finely chopped onion, green chilies, curry leaves and a tadka of cumin seeds and make it more interesting. Or else simply make the batter with water and salt like I did. Enjoy it with coconut chutney or tomato chutney or sambar. As always the cup is 240 ml. The batter shouldn’t be as runny as the rava dosa batter. But keep it a nice pouring consistency. So, what are you waiting for 🙂 You can use any oil. I prefer sesame oil for my dosa.
Ingredients:
- Wheat flour 1/2 cup
- Semolina 1/2 cup
- Rice flour 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
- Sesame oil as required
Method:
- Mix the three flours and salt in a big mixing bowl.
- Add water slowly and whisk it to form a lump free batter.
- Allow the batter to rest for atleast half an hour.
- Heat an iron skillet and rub it with a dash of sesame oil. Rub the surface well.
- Pour one ladle batter in to the tava and spread it to make a thin dosa.
- Sprinkle oil generously and flip it once the sides turn golden in colour.
- Cook on the other side as well.
- Serve it hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
I tried this adding lots of vegetables…. awesome
