Chana dal Raita
Feel like having boondi raita, but afraid of the calories in deep fried boondis? Get an almost similar (yes, I repeat almost similar only) effect with these cooked chana dal raita. A very simple and protein rich raita with just few ingredients. Cook soaked chana dal and add thick curd to it. Temper it with seasonings of your choice and your raita is ready to be served with pulao or jeera rice or parathas. Make sure to cook the chana dal till it is soft. Also ensure that its not overcooked and mushy.
Ingredients:
- Chana dal 1/3 cup
- Salt to taste
- Sugar a pinch
- Chat masala a pinch
- Turmeric powder pinch
- Refined oil 2 tsp
- Chopped onion 1 tbsp
- Green chiles 2
- Curry leaves few
- Coriander leaves 2 sprigs
- Thick curd 1.5 cups
- Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Soak the chana dal for 2 hours.
- Cook it with salt and a pinch of turmeric powder till it’s soft, but not mushy.
- Drain and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a kadhai and add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the curry leaves, chopped onion and green chilies.
- Whisk the curd and add the sauteed onion mixture into the curd.
- Add the cooked chana dal into it.
- Adjust salt and add a pinch of sugar.
- Garnish it with chat masala and finely chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve it with parathas of your choice.
