Cajun spice mix
Haven’t we all heard of this spice mix? Well, honestly speaking I prefer to make everything from scratch at home, eventhough at times it is not exactly like the store bought one. I have tasted the cajun spice potato served at the very famous Barbecue Nation outlet. Had made this 2-3 times before ( in my pre blogging days) too. But never bothered to remember the proportion or click a snap 🙂 So, this time I am a bit more prepared with the proportion and ingredients. As I always reiterate, make use of whatever ingredients you have at home. A spice here or other wouldn’t alter the taste much. So here goes the simple recipe. You just have to mix a couple of ingredients. Store it in airtight containers for future use. Use it in pastas, salads or any meat preparation or grilled vegetables. The purists may complain that this is not authentic, but feel free to use Indian version of paprika, cayenne pepper i.e., our desi red chilli powder (lal mirch) 🙂
Ingredients:
- Red chilli powder 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Sugar a pinch
- Pepper powder 1 tsp
- Italian seasonings 1 tsp
- Oregano 1 tsp
- Onion powder 2 tsp
- Garlic powder 1.5 tsp
Method:
- Mix all the ingredients together and store in airtight containers
Notes:
- I had Italian seasonings with me, which my brother has got from Canada. So i used it directly. You can use a pinch of the ingredients present in it. Feel free to use whatever you have and skip the rest. Believe me, it will still be tasty 🙂
