Jalapenos (Home Style)
Pizza without jalapenos?? Nah… Isn’t it? I have been trying to get jalapenos in various super markets, but without much success. Then a thought struck me.. why not try to make something similar at home? Went to the nearby vegetable store and bought a couple of Bhajji (Bhavnagari) mirchi. The big light green ones. Used some vinegar and salt n sugar and made it at home. The best part is when my brother tasted it, he thought that it was real jalapenos. I didn’t need any other proof that my trial was not a failure 🙂 So now no more of store bought jalapenos. If you are lucky, you might be able to procure the real jalapeno peppers from your nearest vegetable vendor or supermarket. In that case, follow the same procedure with those peppers.
Ingredients:
- Bhavnagari chillies 5-6
- Salt as needed
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Vinegar 1/4 cup
- Water 1/4 cup
Method:
- Wash the chillies and pat it dry with a clean towel or napkin.
- Cut it into small rings and remove the seeds if desired.
- Heat 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup vinegar in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil.
- Add salt to taste, sugar and the cut chillies into the boiling mixture.
- Cook the chillies for 3-4 minutes and turn off the gas.
- Allow it to cool well. Store it in clean and dry bottles.
- Refrigerate and use it in pizza, focaccia, pasta, breads etc.
Awesome!
