Falafel
Ingredients:
- Chick peas 1cup
- Onion a small one or half of a big one
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Salt as required
- Green chilly 1-2
- Jeera powder 1/2 tsp (optional)
- Pepper few corns (optional)
- Chopped parsley or coriander leaves 1 tbsp
Method:
- Soak the chickpeas in water for 6-7 hrs or overnight.
- Grind it along with the remaining ingredients in a mixer till you get a coarse ( dar dara ) mixture. Do not make a fine paste.
- Mix well and keep in fridge till you are ready to make the falafel. This is not a compulsory step. You can directly make falafel out of it.
- Make small balls of it like you make cutlets and
- either (i) deep fry them in oil till it is golden in colour,
- (ii) shallow fry them in a grill pan with just a teaspoon of oil
- Or (iii) bake them in a baking tray or your pizza pan at 180 degree celsius in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes till both sides are cooked and golden in colour. Just smear both sides with a drop of oil.
Notes:
- Believe me, it looks great and tastes awesome wonderful. Probably not so moist as the deep fried ones and a tad bit dry. But that can be overcome with a tasty dip, hummus or any chutney considering the fact that it is really healthy.
