Cinnamon Pull-Apart Rolls
I had read a lot and saw many blogs and videos on how to make cinnamon rolls, which naturally tempted me to try it at home. I knew folks at home won’t be too interested with the cinnamon flavour, but yet I tried to make it. One needs to have a strong liking towards cinnamon to love these. Traditionally, cinnamon rolls are topped with a sugar glaze. I avoided it simply to reduce the sweetness. Though It was not highly welcomed at my home, there is no harm in trying once 🙂
Ingredients:
- Maida 175 gm
- Whole wheat flour 75 gm
- Instant yeast 1/2 tsp
- Sugar 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil or butter 2 tbsp
- Milk plus warm water (50:50) 1 cup minus 2 tbsp
- Icing sugar 2 tbsp
- Cinnamon powder
Method:
- Mix the icing sugar and cinnamon powder well and keep it aside.
- Mix maida, whole wheat flour, sugar, salt and instant yeast. Add milk-water mixture to the dry ingredients and combine well.
- Add oil and knead into a smooth and soft elastic dough for 10-12 minutes. Allow it to rise in an oiled bowl covered with cling film for an hour, or till it doubles in volume.
- Gently punch the dough and knead for 1-2 minutes on a floured surface.
- Roll it into a rectangle using a rolling pin into approximately 12 by 10 inches.
- Spread butter on the rolled dough and sprinkle icing sugar and cinnamon mixture on it evenly.
- Gently roll into a log and slowly elongate the roll a bit by rolling it again on the floured counter.
- Cut the stuffed roll into pieces of approximately 2 inches length, using a sharp knife or a scrapper.
- Arrange these pieces in an oiled cake pan or bread tin or tray. Apply milk wash on the top to prevent it from drying. Cover it with a big lid and allow it to proof again for 30-40 minutes till it puffs up.
- Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 180 degree celsius.
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes. Now apply milk wash again on top and increase the temp to 200-220 degree celsius and bake for another 3-4 minutes till the crust is golden.
- Remove from oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack. Sprinkle with sugar glaze and serve these yummy rolls.
