Tomato Chutney I
My mom would always make this chutney along with the standard coconut chutney whenever she used to make idlis or dosas. This is my mom’s recipe and liked by everyone who has tasted it. My dad’s friends, my hostel friends were all crazy about this simple chutney. This goes very well with idlis, dosas, adai dosa, instant whole wheat dosa, rava dosa etc.
Ingredients:
- Onion 2 medium
- Tomatoes 2-3
- Chilli powder 2-3 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Sugar a pinch
- Oil 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves 2 sprigs
- Coconut oil 1 tsp (optional)
Method:
- Saute sliced onions in 1 tbsp oil till its golden in colour. Add chilli powder and roughly chopped tomatoes and saute for 5 more minutes.
- Remove from fire and allow it to cool. Grind this in a mixer into a smooth paste.
- Crackle the mustard seeds in 1 tbsp oil in a kadhai and add the curry leaves. Pour the ground onion-tomato mixture into the kadhai. Add salt to taste and add a pinch of sugar to balance the flavours.
- Cook it till oil separates and floats on the top. Add a spoon of coconut oil and serve. This step is optional.
