Thumbprint Condensed Milk Cookies
If you read my last 2 posts, you would know that I had made some condensed milk in the morning. Click here and read how to make a delicious and super soft condensed milk bread at home with just a few spoons of condensed milk. I was left out with some more of the condensed milk and so decided to make these too. I had once made these cookies for my relatives, but couldn’t add it in the blog. So here is the recipe. I have used whole wheat flour in the recipe. You may use all purpose flour or a combination of both. We
haven’t used any rising agents in these cookies. I tried once using lesser butter and it tasted more of wheat flour and was not crunchy. This is a very mildly sweet cookie. You can increase the amount of sugar if you want it more sweet.
Whisk together the butter and condensed milk till it’s smooth and creamy. Do not knead hard after adding the flour. If the dough appears too sticky, refrigerate it for few minutes and it will be easy to handle. You can simply flatten a small portion of the dough in your hand and shape them. Or even roll it and cut it using cookie cutters.
Ingredients:
- Whole wheat flour 125 gm (1 cup)
- Salt a pinch
- Brown sugar 2-3 tbsp
- Condensed milk 100 gm
- Butter 65 gm
- Vanilla extract 1/4 tsp
- Fruit jam 1 tbsp (optional)
- Choco chips 1 tbsp (optional)
Method:
- Whisk together or cream the butter, condensed milk and sugar. It should be pale and creamy.
- Sieve the flour and salt 2-3 times to get some aeration.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the whisked mixture and assemble to form a dough. Do not knead hard.
- You may chill the dough for atleast half an hour, so that it becomes easy to handle.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and keep it ready.
- Preheat the oven at 150-160 degree Celsius for atleast 10 minutes.
- Make small balls from the dough and flatten in slightly in your palm.
- Place it on the baking tray. Now if desired make a small indentation in the centre using your thumb and add a small dollop of any fruit jam or a big chunk of chocolate or a choco chip.
- Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes or till the sides look golden.
- Remove the tray from the oven and allow the cookies to cool in the tray for atleast 6-7 minutes.
- Transfer onto a cooling rack and cool it completely.
- Store in airtight containers and enjoy these milky beauties.
Notes:
- You can bake these plain too without any jam or chocochips. Or you can add some dry fruits or nuts.
- You may replace the whole wheat flour with an equal amount of all purpose flour too. You might have to add a spoon of more flour or reduce the amount of condensed milk by a spoon.
- As each oven behaves differently, please check your cookies after 18 minutes or so.
- These cookies do not spread on baking. So do not shape it too thick. Flatten it a bit. I did a mistake by keep it a bit thick.
