Cherupayar (Green gram) Curry
Ingredients:
- Green gram 1 cup
- Salt as required
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder 1 tsp
- Green chillies 1-2
- Onion 1 small
- Curry leaves 2 sprigs
- Coconut oil 1-2 tsp (optional)
Method:
- Wash and soak the green gram in water for 2-3 hours. ( If you are in a hurry, you can skip the soaking ).
- Pressure cook the green gram, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, slit green chillies, roughly chopped onion in sufficient water till its cooked well.
- Check the salt and consistency of the gravy. Add more water if it is too thick and boil for 3-4 minutes.
- Add washed curry leaves and drizzle coconut oil on top.
- If you do not like the flavour of coconut oil, you can give a tadka of mustard seeds and curry leaves in any refined oil.
Notes:
- This is a very mild curry, which goes well with puttu or steamed rice.
- If you are a fan of coconuts, you can grind little coconut and add to the curry or can even add little coconut milk to it to enhance the flavour.
