Baked Nachos
Nachos are one of the most liked snack by most of the kids, isn’t it? This is a healthy and baked version of the usually fried nachos. Ofcourse, the baked ones are a tad bit dry and a bit hard ( I mean slightly harder) than the deep fried ones, but it is really yummy and one can munch on it without feeling the least guilty. I had made these nachos as part of a contest held in a baking group on facebook, of which I am a part. Please do try these.
Ingredients:
- Corn meal ( makke ka aatta) 1 cup
- Whole wheat flour 1/2 cup
- Maida 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Olive oil 2 tsp
- Chilly Flakes 1/2 tsp
- Oregano 1/2 tsp (optional)
- Warm water as required
Method:
- Mix all dry ingredients and knead it a soft and smooth dough using oil and warm water.
- Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep aside for atleast half an hour.
- Roll it into thin rotis of 6-7 inches diameter by dusting your counter with little corn flour and poke holes on it using a fork.
- For the mini version, make small rotis of approximately 3 inches diameter
- Heat a heavy iron tava/girdle till it’s hot. Cook the rotis on it till its half cooked. Flip and turn side and cook.
- Repeat for the remaining dough.
- Cover and store the rotis in a clean kitchen towel.
- Take the rotis and apply oil on both sides of all rotis with the help of a pastry brush.
- Cut each roti into wedges. ( Make 8 pieces from a single roti ).
- Place these wedges on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake these in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes at 180 degree celsius.
- Rotate the sides of the tray halfway during baking to ensure uniformity.
- Remove from oven and allow it to cool.
- Serve with any dip of your choice.
Notes:
- My hubby and daughter like nacho chips separately with the dips and not everything together. If you want everything combined together, then…
- Place few chips on an baking tray, sprinkle grated cheese on top of it, sprinkle tomato sauce or salsa, layer chips again and bake for few minutes in a preheated oven at 160-170 degree celsius for 7-10 minutes.
- Garnish with salsa dip, guacamole, jalapenos and sour cream. Yummy cheesy nachos are ready to be served.
